Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115 g) butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Beat butter and both sugars until creamy.
  3. Mix in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Scoop onto a lined baking tray, leaving space between them.
  7. Bake 9–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden but centers still look soft.
  8. Cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.

Tip: Don’t overbake—the cookies will firm up as they cool and stay soft in the middle.
