Ingredients

  • 500 g broccoli, cut into florets
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method

  1. Toast almonds: Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add almonds and dry-toast for 2–4 minutes, stirring often, until golden. Remove and set aside.
  2. Cook broccoli: Add oil/butter to the same pan. Add broccoli and 2–3 tbsp water. Cover and cook for 5–7 minutes, until bright green and just tender.
  3. Season: Add garlic, salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Cook uncovered for 2–3 minutes, stirring, until the broccoli gets lightly browned.
  4. Finish: Turn off the heat. Add lemon juice and toss.
  5. Serve: Sprinkle the toasted almonds over the broccoli and serve hot.

Tip: For the closest look to the photo, let the broccoli brown slightly before adding the almonds at the very end so they stay crisp.
