Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 cup warm water (add gradually)
- ¼ cup melted butter or ghee, for layering
- Extra flour for rolling
Instructions
- Make the dough: Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Add oil and gradually pour in warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead: Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rest: Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide: Divide the dough into 6 equal balls.
- Roll thin: Roll each ball into a very thin circle on a lightly floured surface.
- Add butter: Brush the surface with melted butter or ghee. Fold or roll the dough into layers, then coil it into a spiral. Tuck the end underneath.
- Roll again: Gently flatten each spiral into a round flatbread without pressing too hard.
- Cook: Heat a skillet or tawa over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown spots appear.
- Finish: Brush lightly with butter or ghee if desired. Gently clap or separate the layers with your hands to make the bread soft and flaky.
Tips for Best Results
- Keep the dough soft for tender flatbreads.
- Allow the dough to rest before rolling to make it easier to handle.
- Use medium heat so the bread cooks evenly without burning.
- For extra flaky layers, brush each rolled sheet generously with ghee.
