Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar
For the Garlic Butter
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
- ½ tsp dried Italian herbs
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Make the dough: Add flour, salt, egg, and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for 7–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled.
- Prepare garlic butter: Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and Italian herbs.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces.
- Flatten each piece, brush with garlic butter, sprinkle with cheese and herbs, then stack the pieces together.
- Place the stacked dough pieces into a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30–40 minutes.
- Brush the top with remaining garlic butter.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 minutes, then brush with a little extra garlic butter and serve warm.
Tip: For an extra cheesy, flavorful loaf, add a little Parmesan along with the mozzarella.
