Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1¾ cups granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water

Optional Add-ins

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts or almonds
  • Powdered sugar for topping

Equipment Needed

  • 1 loaf pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven
  • Cooling rack

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a loaf pan lightly with butter or oil. Line it with parchment paper so the cake can be removed easily after baking.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together:

  • Flour
  • Cocoa powder
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Sugar

Mix everything well so there are no lumps of cocoa powder.

Step 3: Combine the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. Add:

  • Milk
  • Oil or melted butter
  • Vanilla extract

Whisk until everything is fully combined and creamy.

Step 4: Make the Batter

Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently using a spatula or whisk until combined.

Now carefully add the hot coffee or hot water. The batter will become thin, but this helps make the cake extra moist and soft.

If using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them into the batter at this stage.

Step 5: Fill the Pan

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top gently with a spatula.

Do not overfill the pan; leave a little space because the cake will rise while baking.

Step 6: Bake the Cake

Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45–55 minutes.

To check if the cake is ready:

  • Insert a toothpick into the center.
  • If it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, the cake is done.

Avoid overbaking, as it can make the cake dry.

Step 7: Cool the Cake

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10–15 minutes.

After that, transfer it to a cooling rack and allow it to cool completely before slicing.

Chocolate Glaze (Optional)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Method

Heat the cream until warm and pour it over the chocolate chips. Stir until smooth and shiny. Pour over the cooled loaf cake.
