Ingredients

For the Salmon

  • 2 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon wedge

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup milk, warmed
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Season the Salmon

Pat the salmon dry with paper towels. Mix the Cajun seasoning, lemon pepper, paprika, garlic powder, optional brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Brush the salmon with olive oil and coat evenly with the seasoning mixture.

2. Cook the Salmon

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the salmon skin-side down if using skin-on fillets. Cook for 4–6 minutes, then carefully flip and cook for another 3–5 minutes, depending on thickness. The salmon should flake easily and reach 145°F (63°C) in the center.

3. Boil the Potatoes

Place the potatoes in a pot of salted water. Boil for 12–15 minutes, or until fork-tender. Drain thoroughly.

4. Make the Mashed Potatoes

Mash the potatoes with butter, warm milk, and cream cheese if desired. Season with salt and black pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.

5. Serve

Place the salmon on a plate alongside the mashed potatoes. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salmon and serve immediately.
