How to cook Mushrooms in Air Fryer

These delicious Pizza Stuffed Mushrooms are so easy to throw together for a great appetizer! First, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees, or if you’re using your oven heat to 350 degrees. Second, combine your drained and cooked sausage with your marinara sauce, cream cheese, and mozzarella.

Next, clean your mushrooms and remove the stems. I like to use a 1/2 teaspoon metal measuring spoon for this. Stuff your mushrooms with the sausage and cream cheese mixture. Reduce the heat in your air fryer to 375 and cook for 6-8 minutes. If baking in the oven, bake for 20 minutes.

How long to cook Mushrooms in Air Fryer?

You’ll cook these mushrooms for 6-8 minutes in the air fryer or 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven. You will know the mushrooms are done when the cheese has melted and the mushrooms are fork tender. This dish is best served right away.

What kind of mushrooms are best for stuffing?

Any mushroom with a large cap and a good cup shape on the bottom should work for this recipe. Some of my favorite varieties include:

  • Cremini
  • White Button
  • Baby Portobello

Alternatively, you can use large portobello mushrooms if you would like to serve a larger dinner size portion. The filling for this recipe will fit four large mushrooms.

How do you clean mushrooms to make stuffed mushrooms in air fryer?

Mushrooms are very porous, so they soak up water easily. If you’re cleaning sliced mushrooms for a different recipe (like these Italian Baked Mushrooms), you could quickly rinse the mushrooms and pat dry. However, there’s a better way with whole mushrooms.

When prepping mushrooms for stuffed mushrooms, you want to wipe the caps off with a paper towel. If there’s only a little dirt, you can use a dry paper towel, but dirtier ones likely will require a damp paper towel instead. This cleaning method gets rid of the dirt but doesn’t lead to a soggy dish!

If your mushrooms are super dirty and you have to spray them with water, you can par-bake the empty mushroom caps to avoid the soggy bottom problem. Wash your mushrooms, place upside down on a baking sheet, and bake for 5 minutes at 450 degrees F. Then remove mushrooms from the pan, stuff, and bake as directed. This helps draw out the moisture BEFORE you put in the filling so your mushrooms aren’t cooking in a puddle.

Can I make these Air Fryer Mushrooms ahead of time?

Absolutely! If you prepping these mushrooms for a party, dinner or any event, you can do so beforehand. You can prep the entire recipe one day ahead of time and store in the fridge. Alternatively, you could prepare the sausage stuffing, then clean and prep the mushrooms and store separately for 2-3 days. When ready to bake, stuff your mushrooms and bake!

Can I make stuffed mushrooms in an air fryer?

You can! To make these stuffed mushrooms in your air fryer, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees and then reduce the heat to 375 degrees F. Cook your mushrooms for 6-8 minutes or until tender and your cheese is melted. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook these in batches.
