Ingredients:
For the crust
– 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
– ½ cup butter, softened
– ¼ cup sugar
– 1 egg
– 1 tsp baking powder
– A pinch of salt
For the filling
– 4 cups milk
– 1 cup sugar
– 3 eggs
– ¼ cup cornstarch
– ½ tsp vanilla extract
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon (plus extra for dusting)
– 2 tbsp butter
Instructions:
1. Make the crust
– Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
– In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
– In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mix well.
– Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture until a dough forms.
– Press the dough into a greased tart pan evenly and prick the base with a fork.
– Bake for 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
2.Prepare the filling
– In a saucepan, heat the milk and butter until just boiling. Remove from heat.
– In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, cornstarch, and vanilla.
– Slowly add the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture while continuously whisking to prevent curdling.
– Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
3. Combine and bake
– Pour the filling into the cooled crust and smooth out the top.
– Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the filling is set.
– Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
4. Serve
– Dust with ground cinnamon before serving. Enjoy your Milk Tart chilled or at room temperature!
