Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar for stronger flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1–2 tablespoons cooked crab meat or imitation crab (finely chopped)

For Wrapping:

  • 20–25 wonton wrappers (square)
  • 1 small bowl of water (for sealing edges)

For Frying:

  • 2–3 cups vegetable oil (for deep frying)

🍯 Dipping Sauce (Optional but Recommended)

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped green onions

Mix everything in a small bowl and set aside.

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, add softened cream cheese.
  2. Mix in shredded mozzarella, green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. If using crab, fold it in gently.
  4. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Step 2: Assemble the Wontons

  1. Lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface.
  2. Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center.
  3. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold into a rectangle (or triangle if preferred).
  5. Press edges firmly to seal, removing air pockets.
  6. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 3: Heat the Oil

  1. Pour oil into a deep pan or pot (about 2–3 inches deep).
  2. Heat to 350°F (175°C).
    • If you don’t have a thermometer, test by dropping a small piece of wrapper—it should bubble and rise quickly.

Step 4: Fry the Wontons

  1. Carefully place 4–6 wontons into hot oil (don’t overcrowd).
  2. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove using a slotted spoon.
  4. Place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 5: Serve

  • Serve hot and crispy with the dipping sauce.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.

  • Make sure edges are tightly sealed to prevent filling from leaking.
  • Don’t overfill, or they may burst while frying.
  • Keep oil temperature steady for even crispiness.
  • You can also air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway (lightly spray with oil first).
