- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (50 g) sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup (115 g) cold butter, cubed
- ¾ cup (180 ml) milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ¾ cup (100 g) raisins
- 1 egg, for brushing
- Heat oven to 200°C/400°F. Line a baking tray.
- Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Rub in the cold butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the raisins.
- Add milk + vanilla and mix just until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Don’t overmix.
- Put dough on a floured surface and gently flatten to about 2–3 cm thick.
- Cut into 8–10 rough pieces. Don’t worry about making them perfectly shaped—the rustic look in your photo is perfect.
- Place on tray, brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake 15–20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Cool for 5–10 minutes and serve warm with butter.
