  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or cast-iron skillet.
  2. Prepare filling: In a bowl, gently mix blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, zest, cornstarch, and salt. Pour into baking dish.
  3. Make topping: In another bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
  4. Assemble: Spoon batter evenly over the blackberry mixture (it doesn’t have to fully cover).
  5. Bake 35–45 minutes, until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbling.
  6. Cool slightly before serving.
