Ingredients

  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water
  • 2¼ teaspoons (7 g) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk or melted butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let stand for 5–10 minutes if using active dry yeast.
  2. Make the dough: Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  3. Let it rise: Cover the bowl and leave in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the pan: Line a small oven-safe pot or baking dish with parchment paper. Lightly grease it if needed.
  5. Shape the loaf: Gently shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in the prepared pan. Let rest for 20–30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Bake for 35–40 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Brush and cool: Brush the top with butter for a softer crust, if desired. Cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Tips

  • Avoid adding too much extra flour; a slightly sticky dough helps keep the bread soft.
  • If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover it with foil.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
