Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
- Grease the cake pan with butter or oil.
- Dust lightly with cocoa powder or flour to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, add:
- flour
- sugar
- cocoa powder
- baking powder
- baking soda
- salt
Whisk everything together until fully combined.
Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients
Add to the dry ingredients:
- eggs
- milk
- vegetable oil
- vanilla extract
Mix using a whisk or electric mixer for about 2 minutes until smooth.
Step 4: Add Hot Coffee or Water
Slowly pour in the hot coffee (or hot water) while mixing.
The batter will look thin — this is normal and helps create a moist cake.
Coffee enhances the chocolate flavor without making the cake taste like coffee.
Step 5: Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Tap the pan gently on the counter to remove air bubbles.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes.
To Check if Done:
Insert a toothpick into the center:
- If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, the cake is ready.
Step 6: Cool the Cake
- Remove the cake from the oven.
- Let it cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes.
- Carefully transfer to a cooling rack.
Allow the cake to cool completely before adding ganache.
Step 7: Make the Chocolate Ganache
Heat the Cream
- Pour heavy cream into a saucepan.
- Heat until it starts to simmer slightly (do not boil).
Add Chocolate
- Place chopped chocolate in a bowl.
- Pour the hot cream over the chocolate.
- Let sit for 2 minutes.
- Stir until smooth and glossy.
- Add butter for extra shine.
Step 8: Decorate the Cake
- Pour the ganache slowly over the cooled cake.
- Let it drip naturally down the sides.
- Decorate with:
- chocolate chips
- grated chocolate
- nuts
- berries
