A rich, satisfying baked pasta dish that combines the comforting texture of cheese-filled tortellini with marinara, mozzarella, and classic pepperoni slices. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings, this recipe is easy, hearty, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 1 package (about 18 oz) cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)
- 1½ cups marinara sauce (use your favorite brand or homemade)
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 15 to 20 slices of pepperoni
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning or parsley
- Optional toppings: grated parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, fresh basil
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Tortellini
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add tortellini and cook according to the package directions until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Assemble the Dish
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking dish.
Add the cooked tortellini to the baking dish and pour marinara sauce over it. Gently toss or stir to coat the pasta evenly.
Step 3: Add Cheese and Toppings
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the coated tortellini. Top with pepperoni slices, spacing them out evenly. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or dried parsley.
Step 4: Bake
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbling.
Step 5 (Optional): Broil
If desired, turn on the broiler for the last 2 to 3 minutes of baking to slightly brown and crisp the cheese and pepperoni on top. Watch closely to avoid burning.
Step 6: Serve
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil, grated parmesan, or red pepper flakes, if desired.
Tips and Variations
- You can use frozen tortellini, but be sure to cook it fully before baking.
- Add cooked sausage or ground beef for extra protein.
- Swap marinara for alfredo or vodka sauce for a different flavor.
- Use a blend of cheeses (mozzarella, cheddar, provolone) for more depth.
